Are birds for the birds?

Choosing a pet is important as it  affects your child's future as a responsible pet owner. Most experts agree that selecting the "right pet" should be a family decision. A balance between your busy schedule and budget, your child’s health condition, expectations and commitment.

You may decide having a pet only after discussing with your child the life changes that are necessary once there is a pet in the house – these run from housing and pet medicine expenses, to pet chores, like grooming, feeding and cleanup.

Safety of both child and pet should also be discussed among family members. It is but natural for the young to be avidly curious forgetting to be calm and gentle around animals. In addition to all these considerations, as parents, the responsibility for caring for the animal ultimately falls on you.
