Normal levels of uric acid is dissolved in the blood and is passed through the kidneys, exiting as urine. But excess uric acid that doesn’t exit the body is are become crystals and are lodged at the joints, causing pain and inflammation. This is what we call gout.

For those with gout, the rule of thumb then is to avoid bean products including soya milk, tofu, bean sprouts, bean paste, etc. as they all have fairly high-purine content and consequently high uric acid levels.

But does that mean, no more to soya if you have gout? One way to enjoy soya and at the same time avoiding gout attacks is to source for soya products that were prepared without the soya skin. Singaporean chemist and health speaker Chong Su Lee advises "the skin of the soybean is removed. It is the skin that contributes to the purine content”. io medina aceremo
