Megumi Japanese Restaurant
Blk 106 Clemeti St 12 (Sunset Way)
#01-64

UFO maki $12
8 pieces per serving

I "heart" Japanese food! It's not easy to find a good one in the heartland. We chanced upon Megumi Japanese Restaurant during an event and got the opportunity to try their food. The rest is history.

This place is like a hidden gem. A quiet spot in a neighbourhood. A perfect place to have a quiet lunch with a few good buddies.
We were addicted to their UFO maki. It's a warm sushi, unlike those usual cold ones. Warm sushi rice is being wrapped around deep fried salmon...

Chicken wings $1

Breakfast is a huge part of my life, especially when it's with my beloved family. It's a special moment that we share. And not just the moment, delicious breakfast fares are shared too. Everyone get to taste a bit of everything that we ordered.

I usually like to go for noodles in the morning and Economical Bee Hoon is one of my favourites. Not only do I get to choose my preferred side dishes but I enjoy seeing a wide spread of food in front of me when I am hungry (*greedy me*).

My choices of...

Al-Ameen Eating Corner

30 Woodlands Ave1

#01-10 The Woodgrove

Butter Chicken $7

Plain Naan $1.20

This is what I need on a hot afternoon! Lovely butter chicken with naan. Savory, creamy sauce, tender chunks of chicken, aromatic herbs, fluffy and light naan to hold that thick sauce.

Imagine the fluffy naan, half covered with the warm creamy sauce and with chucks of chicken in between; all these in your mouth and the warm sauce sliding down your throat.

Ahhhh… Heavenly…. Perhaps with a cup of teh tarik or ice cold Milo to wash...

Yit Thong Mushroom Minced Meat Noodle

AMK 628 Hawker Centre

Blk 628 Ang Mo Kio Ave 4, #01-83

Mushroom Minced Meat Noodles: $3

Thin and tender slices of pork livers, minced meat, slices of braised mushrooms that tasted like those found in dumplings (could be the 五香粉 that was used), bouncy pork ball and crunchy tau gey (Bean sprouts). Ohhh.. not to forget my favourite Kway Teow. Not too mushy, not too sticky. Just the way I like it.

The stall tends to put in a dash of Coriander (which is Cilantro or Chinese Parsley to some people) to the food. So if you are not a huge fan of that...

On Why Eating Rice Dumplings in Dragon Boats is so Cool

How could dragon boats and rice dumplimgs go together? In modern Singapore, they just do as locals celebrate the Chinese festival of Duanwu.

This year it falls on June 23, a Saturday, when you see most neighborhood markets and coffeeshops are filled with rice dumplings.  Several days before, I saw an uncle buy several dozens along an eatery specializing on rice dumplings along Balestier Rd.  For most families, it is a time when your mother and other aunties cook overnight dozens rice dumplings, known also as "bachang" or" zonzi". The result? you simply have an oversupply of...
