Normal levels of uric acid is dissolved in the blood and is passed through the kidneys, exiting as urine. But excess uric acid that doesn’t exit the body is are become crystals and are lodged at the joints, causing pain and inflammation. This is what we call gout. 

For those with gout, the rule of thumb then is to avoid bean products including soya milk, tofu, bean sprouts, bean paste, etc. as they all have fairly high-purine content and consequently high uric acid levels.
